This string of gorgeous weather we’ve been having. I wish it would last forever!
The sound of crickets chirping and locusts buzzing on a relaxing fall evening.
Getting all the daycare kids down for a nap at once!
Having Justin realize it was Thursday–bowling night for Jeff–and ever since he was born, that’s been our slumber party night. Last night we went to the bowling alley so both kids could say goodnight to dad who would more than likely come in late, came home to snuggle up in my bed and watch some TV together. When Justin was a tiny boy he would always say in his tiny little voice, “Mommy, when daddy doos (does) da bowling, mommy doos da snuggle-down”. And then he would giggle excitedly because he knew I was going to tickle him everytime he said that.
He whispered it in my ear last night before he fell asleep. And he said it just like that. I smiled and turned off the tv so we could spoon and I breathed in his little boy smell. I’m always amazed that with the size of our bed, he will completely move his body until it finds me in the night. My girls were like that too. Jasmine would need to reach out with her big toe and rub my leg just to make sure I was still nearby. Jordan was more independent, but would stick her butt on my back as though that were her temperature regulator and if she were cold in the night–she would just stick it out and hope it hit something warm. Justin, well, he would sleep across me if I let him. He can’t get close enough. I know these days are becoming fewer and he is growing up and will someday not want to “do the snuggle-down”, but I refuse to think about it too much. Last night, I just wished he would stay little for as long as possible. And I was happy to snuggle-down.
